After a little necessary shopping on the rue de Rivoli we visited the Palais Royale. There is a lot of work going on cleaning these magnificent buildings but even while that is all in process, it is still possible to enjoy the gardens.

Nearby are two very important theatres, La

Royal.

After a walk throgh the grounds of the Palais Royal, we wandered back to the rue de Rivoli where Virginia and I parted company. I went home to work on the U3A course and Virginia went off to school taking her favourite bus ride on the number 68. She usually picks it up at the Place de Clichy and it proceeds South via the Avenue de l'Opera, through the grounds of the Louvre, across the Seine, past the Musee d'Orsay, down the Boulevard St. Germain and so on to the Boulevard Raspail where her school is located. Not bad for a "school bus" ride.

By the way, our travel within Paris is virtually free having paid for a monthly "Navigo" card which entitles us to all travel for that period on the buses and Metro. It actually works out to about the cost of two trips per day and considering there are no "transfers" here, you can easily do two trips before you realise it.
