Paris - Some bits and pieces

Just like Saturday everywhere, we cleaned, shopped and Virginia spent a good part of the day doing her homework.  We took a walk and saw some things which we thought might be of interest to those of you following our blog.  If you are in America, you are used to a post box which is blue.  In Australia, it is red, but in France is it yellow.

For some reason, too, they seem to be targets for graffiti and the one above was certainly no exception.

As we walked down to the Funiculare, we passed a lovely house in the middle of a group of shops.  Looking at it one was immediately reminded of Ludwig Bemelmans' marvelous creation, Madeline.

I think we mentioned earlier that it is not uncommon to see chair menders in the street.  On our way to do some shopping we saw this gentleman with several pieces of his handiwork.  There is a vibrant street life in Paris with people selling flowers running market stalls and entertaining.  There are, of course, the beggars as well, but many others make their livlihood on the street or in the Metro by doing jobs or entertaining people.

Because of the age of many of the buildings it is always interesting to look at their façades.  Even a small shop can often offer a charming image.  Here are just two that we noticed in our perambulations.
