Paris. The street action and a street market

It's all about the street today.  Well, almost.  We did start this morning by going up to the Butte for our petit dejouner.  It was around 10:00 AM but the crowds hadn't arrived yet so we had a very pleasant and peaceful start to the day.  Then we caught the Metro to Gare St Lazare to figure out how to get to Giverny.  We intend to go there on Wednesday and as is our pattern, we went to the station to figure out what train we needed to catch and what connections, if any, we needed to make.

Then it was back to the flat.  We had to be there between 1:00 and 3:00 for the plumber who was coming to fix a small leak in the hot water system.  Wouldn't you know it?  Just like everywhere else in the world, no plumber.  He had apparently been taken ill. So we had to reorganise our plans for the day.

There was still a lot of action in the street but by now we could see that it had something to do with the film school around the corner. For more on the school see the blog of  Monday, May 9.  It is, of course, the end of the academic year here.  Virginia surmised that this was all part of the final year project that students were required to complete.  As the afternoon wore on it became increasing apparent that this was the case.  Heavy equipment was being moved, wardrobe preparations were being made and the smell of diesel from generators on the trucks became overpowering.

Around 4:00 in the afternoon we walked down to our shopping area.  Several days ago Virginia noticed that there was going to be a three day  food festival and that seemed like something worth visiting.  All along the street little tent stalls were set up with vendors offering a variety of delightful food and drink from all over France.  Since we had a few other chores, we didn't buy anything although we did enjoy a few samples.  Tomorrow we will take a better look at the festival and expect to do some serious sampling.
